Researchers Develops Self-charging Graphene Super Capacitor Energy Storage System

BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) – Chinese researchers lately developed self-charging graphene super capacitor energy storage system by combining nanogenerator and ‘super conductive material’——graphene. Recently, such an R&D achievement gained industrialization project support from Hebei Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

With the rapid development of micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) and extensive applications of portable electronic instruments and wireless sensor network and Internet of Things, miniaturization becomes an important development direction for electronic devices, which requires power-supplying devices to be both small in volume and high in efficiency.

Nanogenerator can gather tiny mechanical energy from ambient environment and transform into electricity, thereby to provide energy for nanodevices such as sensor and detector; while graphene is a kind of special carbon material of two-dimensional structure and thickness of monoatomic layer, with high strength, excellent conductivity and high specific surface area, for which it has vast development prospects in the fields of super capacitor, lithium ion secondary battery, solar cell, and so forth.

The research and development group of Newnagy (Tangshan), LLC composed of scientific returnees, combining continuously self-charging nanogenerator and graphene super capacitor of effective energy storage, developed self-charging graphene super capacitor energy storage system, which is small in volume, high in efficiency and power density, and with long service life. The researchers meanwhile independently developed self-charging graphene super capacitor intelligent control system.

“The system has characteristics of self-charging, thin film, high capacitance, low cost, easy assemble, and so on, which may satisfy the requirement of some micro-nano devices, thus it has supporting significance for the development of micro-nano device industry.” Said the CEO of the company, Dr. Charle Hsu.

It is reported, 17 patents have been applied on the project of nanogenerator based self-charging graphene super capacitor energy storage system by the company, among which 3 have been granted.

Experts indicate that it is hopeful for nanogenerator based graphene self-charging super capacitor energy storage system to be applied in the fields of Internet of Things, medical apparatus, and so forth.

It is reported, with the support of the government, scientific researchers will carry out further research in the aspects of micromachining of nanogenerator material, fabrication of self-charging graphene super capacitor, and so on, to accelerate the industrialization pace.
