Tangshan will Build a Northern ＂Nano Valley＂

As the industrialization project of nanogenerator’s settling in Tangshan, Hebei Province, this coastal city is actively building the 1st “Nano Valley” in northern China.
Nanogenerator is a type of generating set which takes advantage of nanotechnology. It can transform mechanical energy into electricity in nano scale, and to supply dynamic power for nano devices. Nanogenerator has extremely wide industrialization prospect.
On November 3rd, 2011, Tangshan Municipal Government has signed a cooperation agreement on nanogenerator project with American Newnagy company, to focuse on researching nanogenerator technology and its applications, and the product development covers frontier domains such as micro/nano power sources, micro/nano machining technology, infrastructure monitoring, the Internet of things, personal electronics, medical inspection chips, and biosensors. Through several months’ hardworking, the research personnel have invented with nanogenerator two kinds of product prototypes, eg., nano monitoring system that can be implanted into blood sugar.
As the industrialization project of nanogenerator’s settlement, Tangshan Municipal Government presented a conception of building “Nano Valley”, and consigned Chinese Academy of Sciences to compile Industrial Development Program of Tangshan’s ‘Nano Valley’. Lately, Tangshan Science & Technology Bureau organized experts to conduct discussion on the Program, which marks that “Nano Valley” has marched from a strategic idea toward substantial programming.
In accordance with this Program, development orientation of Tangshan “Nano Valley” will focus on nano energy environmental industry. And more than 20 key projects in recent period are confirmed, such as technological development of nanogenerator applications, technological development of nanofiber applications, self-driven sensor system with nanogenerator as energy supply, research and industrialization of the key technology of nanometer self-charging battery, research and industrialization of the key technology of nanometer self-powered touch screen, nanometer self-powered sensor system for household anti-theft, self-powered water quality monitoring system, nanofiber-based purifier, etc.
Tangshan will strengthen funding on industrialization of nanotechnology, focus on cultivating related industrial technologies around strategic emerging industries, such as energy conservation and environment protection, a new generation of information technology, biology, high-end equipment manufacture, new energy automobile, etc, and strive to realize industrialization.
“Tangshan was built on coal and flourished for steel.” Said the Mayor Chen Guoying, “the implement of the strategic conception of ‘Nano Valley’ has momentous and practical significance for Tangshan to transform mode, adjust structure, and accelerate transformation from resource-dependent city.”
Currently, nanotechnology is on the eve of industrialization to break through, many countries take the industrialization of nanotechnology as a key in high-tech competition. In China, not a few local governments has paid attention to the industrialization of nanotechnology, for instance, in Suzhou, a nanoscience park or “Nano Valley” is built.
